One in five individuals in American will suffer with a mental health disorder. The number one disorder is not depression, but Specific Anxiety. Helping individuals gain knowledge for recognizing the difference between signs and symptoms and known risk factors for mental illnesses and addictions can lead to better outcomes for the individual and reduce stigmas that ridicule and cause hurt to individuals that suffer with mental illness.
Mental Health in the Church Clergy as well as congregations are affected greatly by mental health. 59% of church members suffer with a mental illness. 65% of families with mental illness want clergy to talk about mental illness in service. 71% of clergy say they are burnout. 70% of clergy struggle with depression. 23% of clergy have a mental illness. 12% of clergy have been diagnosed with a mental illness. 71% of clergy say they are unable to recognize a mental illness verses their thinking that it is a demon. 25% of clergy in the U.S. say they have thoughts of suicide due to their depression. 56% of congregations believe that suicide is an epidemic within the church.
